You’ll be surprised to know how common it is for people to look up “What is the date today?” And there can be many different reasons for that. They might have simply forgotten the date or double checking just to be sure, maybe they’re just tracking some future date and just want to keep with the current date. But what I have found out after reading up on it a bit is that most of the people that look this up are actually those who are confused about the different date formats.

What am I talking about? Well as you might know, primarily there are two formats in which you can write today’s date in numbers – DD/MM/YYYY and MM/DD/YYYY.  And it is this confusion that can sometimes get people to look up the current date and its format.

How to tell what format you’re dealing with?

 In most cases it is very easy to tell the format that you’re using. For instance anyone looking at the date 27/03/2322 or 03/27/2322 can easily tell that it refers to 27^th of March in 2322. But what about the date 09/10/1112. How do you make sure that the 09 here refers to the month or the day? This is where things get a bit tricky. But there are still ways to make it out.

The first thing is context, you can sometimes tell what date it is if you know the context that it is being used in. Say you receive a letter in March that uses the date 03/11/2024, and the context of the letter points to events that you know are in the near future, you can then easily make up the deduction that the letter is referring the date 10^th of March. You can use this trick to figure of today’s date in whatever format you see it in.

The second is to look up and make sure what format your organization or client uses. For example, if you’re dealing with an institution based in USA, you can almost be sure that the date format they might be using is MM/DD, which can make it a lot easier to keep track of things.

Another way is to just confirm with the other party. You can just communicate with other people to make sure about the dates and formats and avoid any sort of confusion. This is an even easier thing to do since it does not rely on you guessing the correct format.

How Internet has made it easy to track date

Now if somehow you’re still unsure about the date, you can always turn to the internet. It is the one thing that will never disappoint you! You can just type into the search bar and look up things like Today’s Date or what is the date today, and it will give you the results right way where you can easily check the date and the formats being used.
